ODM TAKES DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS AGAINST THE ‘TRAITORS’

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has announced plans to recall six of its lawmakers who supported the Finance Bill 2024, contrary to the party’s stance. ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna emphasized the MPs’ disregard for party directives and the will of their constituents. The affected legislators are Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Memusi Kanchory (Kajiado Central), and Benard Shinali (Ikolomani).

Sifuna stated, “The ODM party will initiate and oversee the recall process in these constituencies due to the repeated breach of their solemn oath and the wishes of the electorate.” The decision was made during a recent gathering of the party’s central committee on June 2.

At this pivotal meeting, attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga and his deputies, Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, the party also criticized President William Ruto for neglecting accountability amidst human rights abuses in ongoing anti-government protests. They condemned the government’s failure to safeguard lives and property during nationwide demonstrations.

“The youth have provided our nation with its final opportunity,” remarked Sifuna. “We must either embrace it wholeheartedly by meeting all their demands, or risk irreparable damage to our country.” ODM, supported by public funds, has decided to scale back its operations nationwide in response to Kenya’s economic challenges, urging the government to adopt similar austerity measures.

Sifuna affirmed, “ODM stands ready to endorse credible austerity measures within the executive and parliament, institutions often criticized for excess and inefficiency.” Additionally, the party called upon its leaders to enhance responsiveness to the electorate’s concerns.

In essence, ODM’s actions reflect its commitment to discipline within its ranks, critique of governmental lapses, and proactive steps towards economic prudence. The party’s directives underscore its advocacy for accountable governance and responsiveness to public sentiment in Kenya’s political landscape.
