JKIA OPERATIONS UNAFFECTED BY FRIDAY NIGHT POWER OUTAGE, KENYA AIRPORTS AUTHORITY CONFIRMS
Kenya Airports Authority denied claims of blackout at JKIA on Friday night. Photos circulating on social media claiming disruptions at the airport have also been termed as fake and misleading.
KAA assured the public that airport services were never disrupted despite the outage. The authority assures the public that backup power systems generators were promptly activated soon after the failure of the national grid.
“We reassure the public that JKIA remains fully operational, and passengers will have service without any hitch at every point of their journey,” KAA said. The authority went ahead to note that the electricity supply to the airport was not interrupted during the national blackout.
KAA insisted that safety and security for all its passengers were paramount.
“We are committed to maintaining international best practices in airport operations,” it read from the statement. This response was an improvement, as previously such outages had caused delays.
JKIA services were uninterrupted on Friday night, unlike previous incidents where rescue teams had taken as long as 30 minutes to attend to similar scenes.
Kenya Power updated about the blackout, saying electricity had been restored to most parts of the country.
In the second update, Kenya Power announced that supply had been restored to the entire Western Region and parts of Central Rift, South Nyanza, and Nairobi.
“Restoration efforts to the rest of the country are ongoing,” Kenya Power said. The outage varied across regions, with only the North Rift and parts of the Western region spared in the initial stages of the blackout.
Its swift action in activating backup systems ensured that no service disruptions occurred at JKIA. The improvement of the authority’s response was better preparedness and efficiency in the handling of such emergencies.
Kenya Power updates are progressive, explaining the progress in the process of restoration efforts in the affected areas.
