TROUBLE IN PARADISE :CS KURIA BLASTS OFF DP RIGATHI GACHAGUA STATEMENT AGAINST NIS BOSS

Trade and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria strongly criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his recent remarks targeting National Intelligence Service Chief Noordin Haji, whom Gachagua accused of misleading President William Ruto regarding the Finance Bill 2024, which has been sent back to Parliament.

In a statement posted on his X account, CS Kuria emphasized that the committee responsible for endorsing the original Finance Bill, including controversial VAT provisions on essentials like milk and bread, was chaired by the Deputy President himself. Kuria expressed his disdain, stating, “The Committee meeting that endorsed the original Finance Bill which included VAT for milk and bread was chaired by the Deputy President. What a lying, dishonorable man!”

Responding to Kuria’s criticism, Gachagua, during a press conference in Mombasa, lambasted the NIS for allegedly feeding him and President Ruto false information about public sentiment towards the Finance Bill. He called for NIS Director General Noordin Haji to resign, attributing intelligence failures to the agency which he claimed contributed to public unrest, fatalities, and disruptions in Parliament.

Gachagua highlighted the security sector’s inadequate response to the protests, suggesting that better intelligence could have prevented the crisis. He asserted, “There has been a failure in intelligence and advice received. The President has now agreed we need to listen to the people.” Stressing accountability, he added, “NIS DG Noordin Haji must take responsibility for the deaths and the breach of Parliament. He must resign.”
