Tusker FC continued to step up pre-season work in Uganda, with a 1-0 win over Uganda Stanbic Cup champions Kitara FC at their homeground in Masindi.

Lawrence Luvanda’s sensational 77th minute goal gave the team the second victory in the tour of Uganda, coming in week four of pre-season training.

“This was a very good test for us because Kitara is a really solid and tactically organized team. It was the kind of friendly match we needed to test where we are as a team and I can say so far so good. We did most of the things correct but we still need to work a bit more on several aspects of the game,” said interim coach Charles Okere.

He added; “It is still week four so we have like two more weeks to finalize and I believe we will be ready for the season.”

It was a tough duel at a well attended match, with both sides showing their worth. Tusker had several good efforts on target in the opening half, Naaman Balecho and Boban Zirintusa both seeing their long range shots saved by the keeper.

Zirintusa had another effort on the half volley bounce just wide. Shaphan Oyugi thought he had scored the opener when he picked up a deflected ball off a Chris Erambo shot, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The second half was even more closely contested with the hosts having one good chance at goal that was kept out by a hawk-eyed Joseph Ochuka in goal.

The brewers got the winning goal 13 minutes from time when Luvanda struck a beautiful volley from inside the box when George Kaddu’s long throw was defended into his path.

The team will have a recovery session on Friday afternoon before playing another local side, recently promoted Lugazi FC in the last match on Saturday.
