Farmers who supply sugarcane in Bungoma County have raised concerns regarding the deployment of National Youth Service (NYS) personnel on the nucleus farms.

This comes after NYS personnel were brought in with tractors from the ADC and started ploughing the farm.

They stated that the locals entirely depend on the jobs in the factory including planting and cutting of the cane.

They have appealed to both national and local leaders from the region to address the issue since it will render the locals jobless.

“This deployment of NYS is really bothering us. When the President was campaigning, he promised to give jobs to the lower class. Is NYS the lower class? Where will our youth go to if NYS are now taking over the jobs?” posed Godfrey Owino, a resident of Bukembe, Bungoma County.

“Speaker Moses Wetangula, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi…you are sitting with the president…what advice are you giving him.”

“Here in Bukembe where Nzoia Sugar as the youth we are asling why are you allowing the NYS to come and work here yet you promised to give jobs to the youth,”added Juma Lubakaya, a resident.
