KALONZO DECLARES NO INTEREST IN RUTO’S CABINET

Wiper Party boss Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed any opportunity of serving as the Attorney General.

While addressing the press on Thursday, the former Vice-President said he had not been appointed to the post amid reports rife that he had been fronted for it.

“That nobody has offered any position to me or Wiper. That thing about the Attorney General, is a mirage. I may be senior counsel which is okay, maybe that’s the attraction, but this guy has been Vice President of the Republic of Kenya and has been minister in many portfolios; do you expect me to serve Ruto as Attorney General? I think he is expecting too much,” he said.

He stated that having served as Vice President is a higher responsibility in comparison to an Attorney General’s office.

His sentiments came a day after several Opposition leaders were nominated by President William Ruto to his new ‘broad-based’ Cabinet on Wednesday.

Among the 10 persons proposed to join the Cabinet by President Ruto were Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho, who are the deputy party leaders at ODM.

The two former governors are among allies of the Opposition leader Raila Odinga, who has been fronting for national dialogue after consulting with the Head of State.

Other notable opposition members Ruto named to be part of his cabinet are Nominated MP and ODM Chairman John Mbadi, who has been proposed to head the powerful Ministry of National Treasury and Economic Planning, while National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi has been proposed to head the Energy and Petroleum docket.

In his address to the nation on Wednesday, Ruto defended his nominees, saying that he acted as per the wishes of Kenyans.

“I want to give the people of Kenya an assurance that the government listens to them. For the last month, I have led the government in engaging and listening to citizens from all walks of life as they express themselves in different forums. I have heard you, and I have heard you clearly,” Ruto said.

On the other hand, all four accepted the nomination, thanking the President, and are lined up for vetting.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua, DAP-K Eugene Wamalwa, and Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni have publicly declared not to work with Ruto.
