Kenya revises passport application charges

In a gazette of Monday, November 6, by Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure, Kenyans will spend more to obtain the documents.

Notable in the changes are the increased charges Kenyans will pay for passports and identity cards, whereby Kenyans will begin paying KSh 1,000 to register for the national ID.

Replacing a national ID card, which used to cost KSh 100, will now cost Kenyans KSh 2,000, while passport processing charges will range between KSh 7,500 and KSh 15,000.

The cost of replacing a lost passport had been increased from KSh 12,000, less the KSh 50 convenience fee, to KSh 20,000.

In the new directive, registering births and deaths will cost Kenyans KSh 200. Processing the documents used to cost KSh 50. Late registration of birth and death certificates used to cost KSh 150, but the fee has been increased by over two times, and Kenyans will pay KSh 300 for each of these services.

Registration of births in Kenyan missions abroad used to cost 50 US dollars, but this amount has been increased to 150 US dollars.
