The Nyanza region edition of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba enters the semi and finals this weekend at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.  

The semi-finals will be played on Saturday and the finals on Sunday. In the first semi-final, Agenga Ladies from Migori will be up against Siaya’s VSA Ladies while in the second semi, favorites and national defending champions Nyakach Girls aka Plateau Queens coached by Chrispine Odundo faces unpredictable Kisii Queens from Kisii County.

Nicodemus Migosi the Kisii Queens coach said: “All the teams that have reached the semis are good and deserve to be here. We are going to give it our best. We want to qualify for the nationals. That’s our bare minimum.”

In the boys’ category, Awendo Academy from Migori County will battle it out with St Peter’s Wagai from Siaya County while favourites Obunga FC will face minnows Nyaguku FC from Nyamira County in the other semi-final.

Winners will receive Sh250, 000 while runners-up will walk home with Sh150, 000. The champions in both the boys’ and girls’ categories will book slots at the nationals.

The Nyanza County finals come hot on the heel of the Western Region finals which saw Brenda Girls from Bungoma and Ebwali Boys from Vihiga secure their slots to the national finals scheduled for February 2024.

A total of 530 teams, including 412 Boys’ teams and 118 Girls’ teams, featured in the Nyanza region grassroots games played from the ward level.

A total of 32 young players from the tournament will be scouted and get an opportunity to visit Spain for a 10-day training boot camp.

Safaricom Chapa Dimba was first launched in 2017 to give young people between the ages of 16-20 years a platform to showcase their talent and get rewarded for their passion.
