FKF Premier League returnees Shabana will go head to head with AFC Leopards for international striker John Makwata.
On Friday, Shabana Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama confirmed the club has entered into the race to sign the former Township Rollers striker. Makwata is a free agent after parting ways with the Botswana Premier League giants. AFC Leopards is also interested in the striker.
“Yes, it is true we are in the race for the striker. Negotiations are ongoing but we have not reached an agreement yet,” said Kerama.
Kerama added: “He is a goal poacher. He is the kind of striker that we need in our team now. We are ready to break the bank for his signature.”
However, Makwata will only be available from January when the transfer window is opened. The international window was closed a week ago.
Kerama confirmed that they will make three more signings before the transfer window is closed.
“We have a squad of 27 players. We want to make three additions before the transfer window is closed,” he said. The transfer window is scheduled to close on Friday, September 15, 2023.
A source at the club confirmed that they are also negotiating with former AFC Leopards captain Eugine Mukangula after missing out on Humphrey Mieno who signed for Sofapaka. Mieno was released by Tusker at the end of last season.
