Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei has come out to refute those who have remained critical of the Kenyan government’s choice to send police officers on a security mission to Haiti in the Caribbean nation.
In a statement on Wednesday, Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei expressed confidence that Kenyan troops would be successful in disarming the hundreds of gangs that have for decades waged terror in Haiti and even taken control of the nation.
“The U.N Security Council approval for Kenya to lead restoration of peace and security to Haiti is a signature of our country role in global community, “said Cherargei.
“Our Police deployment to Haiti is not ordinary police deployment to Haiti but Special Forces/ Paramilitary Police to handle the Haitian criminal gangs. In the next one year, Haiti shall be a country of prosperity flowing with honey and milk courtesy of Kenya’s peace process, “stated the Senator.
A one-year international security mission for Haiti, headed by Kenya, was approved by the UN security Council on Monday. Twelve other nations, including Jamaica, Barbados, and Antigua and Barbuda, have indicated that they will join in the mission.
Kenya has promised to provide 1,000 security officers to help with the aim to end decades of gang violence marked by frequent murders, kidnappings and extortion.
