PRESIDENT RUTO’S ACCUSES FORD FOUNDATION OF FUNDING PROTESTS IN KENYA

President William Ruto today accused an American NGO, the Ford Foundation, of funding the recent anti-government protests in the country. Addressing Kenyans at Keringet Market in Nakuru County, Ruto came out strongly, stating that Kenyans needed peace. He reiterated that there were significant beneficiaries of the protests in Kenya from certain quarters.
“Those who are sponsoring the violence, we know them, and I want to call out those who are behind the anarchy in Kenya. Shame on them!” Ruto said. He further claimed that the organization harbored ill intentions and was operating against Kenya’s best interests and democracy.
Earlier in the day, President Ruto reiterated similar sentiments during a development tour in Nakuru. “I want to tell those people who are taking money and trying to fund violence in Kenya that I will stop them. We want peace, and that is our stand,” he added.
The President also urged the youth to avoid being pawns of such influential parties. “Our young people, please don’t be swayed by those trying to turn our country into a place of war destruction, and chaos.”
Incidentally, the President’s words are in line with those of the Government’s Spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, who stated on June 22 that some international players were behind the funding of protests. He further asserted that some foreign powers were unhappy with Ruto due to his eagerness to reduce reliance on the United States Dollar as the main currency for international trade, hence interfering in Kenyan politics.
On July 3, the government indicated that the police were investigating six politicians, a businessman, and two NGOs believed to be financing the protests.
