The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has initiated an investigation into allegations of police brutality involving a woman who claims she was assaulted by an officer at Naroosura Police Station in Narok County.
The incident reportedly occurred when the woman visited the station to file a domestic complaint against her husband. She alleged that her husband had defrauded her of a jointly owned motorcycle, a key source of income for their family.
According to the woman, her husband excluded her from the business’s earnings, leaving her in financial distress. She further accused him of using the proceeds to support an extramarital affair.
The situation escalated at the police station when, instead of receiving assistance, the woman was allegedly attacked by the officer on duty. The assault left her with visible injuries, sparking public outrage after images circulated widely on social media.
IPOA Chairperson Issack Hassan confirmed the launch of an independent investigation into the matter. In a press statement issued on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, IPOA assured the public that justice would be pursued.
“After reviewing the widely shared images depicting injuries allegedly caused by a police officer, IPOA contacted the victim’s family on Monday, April 21, 2025. Our Rapid Response team has initiated an investigation, and preliminary findings indicate the victim is receiving treatment at Narok Level 5 Hospital,” the statement read.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to holding law enforcement officers accountable for any misconduct, emphasizing the importance of public trust in policing institutions.
