Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made startling claims about his alleged fallout with President William Ruto, revealing that he was offered Ksh.2 billion to step down from his position. In an interview with Royal Media Services’ vernacular radio stations—Mulembe, Vuuka, and Sulwe FM—Gachagua painted a picture of strained relations and political intrigue.

The Alleged Resignation Proposal

Gachagua alleged that President Ruto approached him with an enticing offer: Ksh.2 billion for a comfortable retirement, complete with security and remuneration, and the possibility of pursuing future political ambitions.

“The President asked me to step down, promising financial security and a chance to contest elections later. But I declined,” Gachagua stated.

He also disclosed that allies encouraged him to consider the deal, suggesting it could pave the way for his 2027 political ambitions. Despite this, Gachagua chose to stand firm, rejecting their advice.

Allegations of Bribery and Political Fallout

The former Deputy President further accused members of Parliament and the Senate of receiving substantial sums to support his removal.

“Some MPs allied to me received Ksh.500,000 each, while a section of Senators pocketed Ksh.10 million to facilitate my ouster,” he alleged.

Gachagua also took aim at the government’s handling of abductions in Kenya, criticizing its perceived hypocrisy in prioritizing peace efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo over local security concerns.

“How can you advocate for peace in Congo while our youth are being abducted here at home?” he questioned, citing recent incidents involving chiefs in Mandera.

Critique of Ruto’s Government

Gachagua openly criticized President Ruto’s government, describing it as ineffective and out of touch with the needs of Kenyans. He pointed to policies like the Affordable Housing project, high taxation, and economic measures introduced by Ruto’s advisors as key areas of disagreement.

“The current administration, even with the inclusion of opposition members in the Cabinet, has failed to deliver meaningful change,” he remarked.

Gachagua expressed particular concern over the political neglect of Mt. Kenya, accusing the President of shifting his focus to Mt. Elgon.

“Mt. Kenya is gone. My only mistake was uniting my people,” he lamented.

Plans for Youth Engagement

Turning his attention to Kenya’s youth, Gachagua emphasized the need for fresh leadership and promised to unveil initiatives aimed at integrating the younger generation into his vision.

“Gen Z lacks leadership. If they accept me as their leader, I would be honored to take on that mandate,” he said.

Conclusion

Rigathi Gachagua’s revelations shed light on the deep divisions within Kenya’s political landscape. As he continues to challenge the policies of President Ruto’s administration, his bold claims and commitment to youth leadership position him as a figure to watch in the country’s evolving political arena.
