A pastor in Nyamira County is in police custody after being accused of defiling a 14-year-old girl inside a church in Ikonge. The shocking incident, which has drawn widespread condemnation, took place on the evening of April 20, 2025.
Community Alert Leads to Arrest
A vigilant member of the public reportedly alerted local authorities after witnessing the 42-year-old pastor locking himself inside the church with the minor. Police officers arrived at the scene in Nyamira North Sub-county to find the church locked from the inside and its lights off.
Efforts to reach the pastor, including phone calls, were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off. Authorities sought help from his wife, who appeared visibly shaken upon seeing a set of keys inside the church through a window. With assistance from the community, the keys were retrieved, and the pastor eventually unlocked the doors after pleading for forgiveness.
Disturbing Discovery
Inside the church, officers found a pair of shoes believed to belong to the girl. A search of the premises revealed the minor, a Grade 8 pupil, hiding in a 310-litre drum in a makeshift kitchen. Witnesses reported that the girl appeared visibly distressed, and her clothing suggested possible abuse.
The girl, who had been under the care of the church, was taken to the police station along with the suspect for further investigation.
