The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended two suspects involved in a high-profile electronics theft valued at Ksh17.6 million. The daring heist occurred over the Easter holiday at a warehouse in Embakasi, Nairobi.

Details of the Heist

According to the DCI’s report on Wednesday, April 23, the robbery took place on Easter Sunday, April 20, at the Atlantic Business Park. The culprits targeted two storage facilities, breaking in and making away with a range of electronic devices, including televisions and CCTV servers.

The theft was reported at the Mombasa Road Police Station after employees discovered the missing items upon returning to work. The stolen goods included:

  • 363 units of 43-inch Hisense TVs
  • 20 units of 20-inch HB TVs
  • 11 sets of HS 218 soundbars
  • 4 HP laptops
  • 2 mobile phones
  • Desktop computers, school bags, spare parts, and other gadgets.

Breakthrough in Investigations

Police investigations revealed that the perpetrators gained access by cutting through the iron sheet roofing of the facility, entering both the accounts office and the storeroom. Suspicion quickly fell on the facility’s security personnel, who failed to respond effectively to an alarm triggered during the robbery and subsequently went missing.

Forensic analysis led detectives to track down two suspects at a resort in Ruai. Upon arrest, several stolen items were recovered, including:

  • 269 Hisense 43-inch TVs
  • 65 Hisense 55-inch A6 TVs
  • 2 Hisense 65-inch Q6 TVs
  • 8 Hisense 58-inch A6 TVs
  • 7 Hisense 32-inch A4 TVs
  • Additional soundbars and other electronics.

The stolen items had been loaded onto a white Mitsubishi FH truck, which was confiscated alongside the electronics as evidence.

Current Developments

The suspects are now in police custody, awaiting arraignment in court. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to locate and arrest the missing security guards and any other accomplices involved in the heist.

The successful recovery of a significant portion of the stolen goods highlights the swift action and investigative expertise of the DCI. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to bringing all individuals involved in this crime to justice.
