Kenyan gospel singer Emmy Kosgei and Nigerian preacher Apostle Anselm Madubuko are celebrated as one of the most admired couples in the gospel world. However, their love story is far from conventional, shaped by loss, faith, and divine intervention.

A Chance Meeting in Mombasa
The seeds of their relationship were sown in 2012 when Apostle Madubuko was invited to preach at Pastor Dr. Lai’s church in Mombasa. At the time, Madubuko was grieving the loss of his wife and had no intention of remarrying.
During the service, Emmy Kosgei, a renowned gospel singer, took the stage. Her powerful voice left Madubuko mesmerized. “She reminded me of Miriam Makeba,” he recalled in an interview with Dr. Ofweneke.
Curious about the singer, Madubuko inquired about her but had no plans beyond admiration. “I said, ‘Whoever marries this girl is blessed.’ Little did I know I would be the one,” he shared.
A Turning Point: Loss and Divine Direction
After his wife’s passing in 2012, Madubuko was convinced he would remain single. However, his son planted a seed of possibility by suggesting Emmy as a potential partner.
Initially dismissive, Madubuko later received what he described as a divine message. “God told me, ‘I don’t give old men to kings. I bless kings with young women,’” he said, sparking a renewed sense of purpose in pursuing Emmy.
Emmy Kosgei’s Struggles with Love
At the time, Emmy was in a stressful relationship, which she confided in Madubuko during one of their conversations. “I asked her, ‘If he’s stressing you now, what will happen when you get married?’” he said.
Not long after, Emmy ended her relationship, giving Madubuko the opportunity to express his intentions. Despite her admiration for him as a spiritual leader, Emmy struggled to see him as a romantic partner.
“It was a big problem for her. She used to see me as an angel from heaven,” Madubuko admitted.
A Love That Triumphed
Through persistence and faith, Madubuko eventually won Emmy’s heart. The couple tied the knot in 2013, blending their lives and ministries into a powerful partnership that continues to inspire many.
Reflecting on his past, Madubuko acknowledged his transformation from a reckless lifestyle to a committed servant of God. Now 66, he cherishes his role as a father and grandfather while supporting Emmy in her music and ministry.
A Modern Gospel Power Couple
Today, Emmy Kosgei and Apostle Madubuko are celebrated for their unwavering faith, love, and dedication to their shared mission. Their story is a testament to the power of divine timing and purpose in relationships.
