President William Ruto has invited Azimio leader Raila Odinga for talks following a streak of protests in the last months.
In a Twitter post on his way to Tanzania: “My friend Raila Odinga, am off to Tanzania for a human capital meeting to harmonise the expansion of employment opportunities in our continent. Am back tomorrow evening, and as you have always known, am available to meet one on one with you anytime at your convenience.”
This is not the first time Ruto publically offers to meet Raila. While addressing the nation in April, Ruto said he was ready to engage with the opposition to discuss how to reconstitute the country’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Four months ago, the opposition coalition had called for weekly protests to oppose Ruto’s win, saying if it hadn’t been for vote-rigging by the electoral agency, Raila would have won.
The protests has gathered pace in recent weeks with protestors demanding that the food prices be lowered owing to the high cost of living.
