The #OccupyParliament entered its second day after residents of Mombasa County on Wednesday took to the streets in protest of the Finance Bill 2024 that is being discussed in Parliament.

Armed with chants and placards, the protestors walked along the streets of the county, urging the Members of Parliament to reject the bill.

The protestants met in three scheduled grounds; Pembe za Ndovu, Mwembe Tayari and Makadara Grounds. Despite the rainy weather, the residents walked along the streets and called upon the legislators to heed their demands.

A section of police officers who were dispatched to Mombasa’s Central Business District, clashed with the protestors as they lobbed teargas to restrain them from the peaceful protests.

According to posters shared online, the #OccupyParliament will continue on Thursday in other counties such as Meru, Eldoret, Laikipia, Nakuru and Nyeri.

On Wednesday, MPs will debate the bill during the Second Reading and proceed to vote on Thursday to either reject or pass the bill.
