Media personality and comedian Oga Obinna recently opened up about a past decision that brought significant drama into his life—a DNA test to confirm the paternity of one of his children. Known for his close relationship with his four children, Obinna shared the emotional and financial struggles that led to this controversial choice.

The Conflict That Sparked a DNA Test
Obinna’s decision stemmed from a heated disagreement with one of his baby mamas over child support. Speaking candidly in a conversation with actress Morin, he revealed how the financial demands and co-parenting tensions pushed him to take drastic measures.
“I was earning Sh70,000 and had two other baby mamas to support. I was also paying my brother’s school fees and supporting my parents. When her lawyer demanded Sh54,000 a month—Sh20,000 of which was for entertainment—I felt overwhelmed.”
Feeling backed into a corner, Obinna requested a DNA test, admitting it was partly an emotional reaction to the escalating financial pressures.
“I got angry. I told her I wanted a DNA test. Wacha kanuke.”
Why the DNA Test Caused Controversy
The request was not well-received by Ada’s mother, who suspected Obinna was trying to avoid his responsibilities.
“She thought I wanted to change the DNA results to deny the child, but for me, it was about the money.”
Despite her resistance, the test was conducted, and the results confirmed Ada was indeed Obinna’s daughter. While this settled the paternity question, it didn’t resolve the co-parenting challenges.
“It was chaotic, messy, and loud. Even after the DNA results, the fights didn’t stop. Co-parenting comes with misunderstandings, mostly about funding and access.”
Life as a Single Father
Today, Obinna is proud to be a single father raising all four of his children under one roof. Unlike many fathers who leave their children in the care of their mothers, he has taken an active role in their upbringing.
“Research suggests children raised by single fathers have a higher chance of success. While it’s debatable, I believe in the importance of a father’s presence.”
Beyond his biological children, Obinna has also opened his home to other children, demonstrating his commitment to providing a nurturing environment.
Humour in Retrospect
Obinna eventually explained the DNA saga to Ada, who now laughs about it. The experience, though turbulent, became a learning moment for the comedian and his family.
“It’s all good now. Ada finds the story funny, but at the time, it was tough.”
A Lesson in Resilience and Fatherhood
Obinna’s journey sheds light on the challenges of co-parenting, the financial strain of child support disputes, and the importance of resilience. While his decision to request a DNA test stirred drama, it highlights the complexities of modern family dynamics and the lengths parents go to for clarity and stability.
