Nairobi, Kenya – May 2025: Naivas Supermarket, one of Kenya’s largest retail chains, has strongly refuted online allegations suggesting that its stores are selling expired products or facing shutdowns by health authorities. The retailer dismissed the claims as baseless fabrications aimed at damaging its reputation.

Naivas Defends Its Integrity

In a press release issued on Wednesday, Naivas emphasized that the allegations circulating on social media were entirely false.

“We categorically deny the claims that expired products have been found in our stores. Our internal quality control and stock management systems are robust and designed to ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations,” the statement read.


Stores Remain Fully Operational

Addressing rumors of branch closures, Naivas clarified that all its outlets across the country remain operational and fully compliant with national and county standards.

“No Naivas branch has been shut down by regulatory or health authorities. We adhere strictly to guidelines set by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the Ministry of Health to maintain the highest standards of quality and safety,” the statement continued.


Fighting Misinformation

The supermarket chain condemned the false allegations, noting the potential harm to both its business and customers.

“These claims are misleading and could damage the trust we have built with our customers over the years. Naivas will pursue legal action against individuals or entities propagating this misinformation,” the statement warned.

Naivas also reiterated its firm stance against unethical practices, stating, “We have a zero-tolerance policy on bribery and corruption and will not succumb to any extortion attempts.”
