Nairobi Central Police Station’s Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Talaam has been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death of social media influencer Albert Ojwang. This was confirmed by Boniface Samati, Commissioner of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), during a press briefing on Friday.

Key Arrests in the Investigation
Samati revealed that Talaam was apprehended by the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and handed over to IPOA to assist with the case. Statements from several witnesses, including individuals detained at the station on the night of Ojwang’s death, have been recorded to reconstruct the events leading up to the incident.
“Our investigation is still ongoing, and this is a status update. We are not ruling out the possibility of further arrests. High-ranking officers are under scrutiny, and we are methodically building our case,” said Samati.
Evidence Collection and Arrests
IPOA has made significant strides in gathering evidence. Investigators documented the crime scene, collected blood samples for analysis at the government chemist, and secured the station’s CCTV Digital Video Recorders (DVR) to recover any relevant footage.
So far, three individuals have been arrested:
- OCS Samson Talaam
- Police Constable James Mukhwana, who was on duty during the incident
- A technician accused of dismantling the CCTV system
Commissioner Samati emphasized, “Mukhwana’s role during the incident is critical, and he remains a key figure in the investigation.”
Allegations Against Talaam
The arrest follows a statement by Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin, who identified Talaam as the prime suspect in the case. Amin cited Talaam’s refusal to book Ojwang when he was first brought to the station, raising questions about his involvement and accountability.
“It has been confirmed that prior to the booking, report office personnel contacted Talaam, who declined to authorize the entry. This decision warrants deeper investigation,” Amin stated during a Senate session on June 11, 2025.
Next Steps in the Investigation
IPOA is determined to uncover the truth, with Samati noting, “We have additional witnesses to interview and are pursuing leads that could result in more arrests. According to station records, Ojwang was booked in healthy but left unresponsive, requiring urgent medical attention at Mbagathi Hospital.”
This high-profile case continues to unfold as the public and Ojwang’s family demand justice and accountability.
