Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has addressed swirling rumors regarding recent police transfers, including speculation about the relocation of popular Mugithi singer and police officer Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, widely known as Samidoh. Kanja emphasized that all transfers within the National Police Service (NPS) follow standard operational procedures.

Police Transfers: Routine or Targeted?

Speaking on Wednesday, May 28, Kanja defended the transfers, highlighting that they are a routine aspect of police operations and not tied to any specific incident or individual. While he did not directly mention Samidoh, he stated,

“Police officers are civil servants governed by regulations, including transfers. These movements are procedural and address operational requirements.”

Despite this, reports suggest that Samidoh has been reassigned from the Central Region Police Headquarters to the Administration Police’s Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil.

The Controversy Surrounding Samidoh

The speculation around Samidoh’s transfer began after a viral video from May 16 showed the singer performing at an event where attendees chanted slogans perceived to be anti-government. The chants, including the phrase “Wantam,” a term interpreted as advocating for a one-term presidency for President William Ruto, intensified scrutiny of the artist’s actions.

Reports indicate that senior government officials viewed the performance as a breach of the Service Standing Orders (SSO), sparking internal disciplinary action.

Political Intrigues and Public Reaction

Samidoh’s situation has further fueled political tensions. On May 27, reports emerged that the singer had been officially transferred, despite a prior meeting with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. This development has stirred debates among fans, opposition leaders, and even former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who criticized Samidoh’s association with Kindiki.

Gachagua took a hard stance, demanding apologies from musicians who engaged with Kindiki, threatening a boycott of their music otherwise.

Kanja’s Assurance

In response to public speculation, IG Kanja reiterated that transfers within the NPS are routine and aim to optimize the service’s functionality.

“Any officer in the NPS can be transferred as per operational needs. This is standard practice and should not be politicized,” Kanja stated.

Samidoh’s Subtle Response

Amid the ongoing controversy, Samidoh addressed his critics with a cryptic social media post, writing, “In a war of egos, the loser wins.” The statement left fans and commentators speculating about its deeper meaning, as the singer continues to navigate both his police duties and public persona.
