The plot surrounding Juja MP George Koimburi’s alleged self-abduction thickened following the arrest of Kanyenyaini MCA Grace Nduta, widely known as ‘City.’ Police apprehended Nduta at a Kandara restaurant, linking her to the embattled MP during his purported disappearance.

Her arrest brings the total number of suspects in custody to four, as law enforcement seeks clarity on the mysterious case. Investigators have already petitioned the court to detain the suspects for 15 days to complete their inquiries.

Details Emerge on MCA Nduta’s Arrest

According to Joseph Kamau, Nduta’s driver, she had received a phone call to meet someone at the Kandara restaurant shortly before her arrest. Kamau noticed a suspicious vehicle nearby, which raised concerns.

“I dropped her off, but about 100 meters away, I saw a car with its windows lowered, and the occupants seemed to be observing us. I called her to warn her to be careful, but her phone later became unreachable,” Kamau explained.

Moments later, Kamau returned to find that Nduta had been taken away by three unidentified men. The hotel staff confirmed the incident, revealing that the suspects had left the premises hastily.

Political Undertones in the Arrest

Supporters and family members have speculated that Nduta’s arrest may be politically motivated. Her close ties with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whom she recently hosted in her ward, have fueled these claims.

“She recently invited Rigathi Gachagua to Murang’a. We suspect her arrest is politically linked, but we assert that political season or not, justice must prevail,” said Wambugu Gacunji, Nduta’s personal assistant.

Kariara MCA Gichubi Mbatia defended Nduta, saying:

“If there’s wrongdoing, let it be handled lawfully. However, being an ally of Gachagua or a friend of Koimburi is no crime.”

Investigation Updates

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that Nduta is being questioned over her associations with MP Koimburi. Police reports suggest she was in contact with Koimburi at the time of his reported disappearance.

Meanwhile, three other suspects are also in custody, with the DCI requesting additional time to investigate their involvement in what has been termed as a ‘staged abduction.’ The case is set for a court hearing on Friday.

Community Reaction

The incident has sparked mixed reactions across the region, with some residents calling for transparency in the investigations and others decrying perceived political interference.

As the investigation unfolds, questions about the integrity of leadership and the role of politics in justice remain at the forefront of public discourse.
