Authorities are investigating the tragic death of a young police officer who allegedly succumbed to complications from an induced abortion at a private medical facility in Nairobi’s Kawangware area.


Incident Details

The case was reported early Tuesday morning by Inspector Christine Muthoni of Muthangari Police Station under OB No. 05/18/06/2025.

The officer’s lifeless body was transported to Eagle Hospital at around 12:20 a.m. in a private vehicle, registration number KCP 623Y. Medical personnel at the hospital confirmed her death and cited severe complications suspected to be related to an abortion procedure.


Chain of Events

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had initially sought treatment at Kabiro Hospital in Kawangware before being transferred to Eagle Hospital, located approximately seven kilometers from the scene.

Upon receiving the report, officers from Muthangari Police Station, alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Dagoretti and a Scene of Crime (SOC) unit, promptly responded.

They found the deceased’s body in the vehicle, lying in a pool of blood.


Victim Identified

The victim was identified as an Administration Police Constable attached to the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) in Embakasi. Reports indicate she was on leave at the time of the incident.

The estimated time of her death was around 10:20 p.m., before she was transported to the second facility.


Arrests Made

Two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the case:

  • Bruce Matte, a nurse allegedly involved in the procedure.
  • Indombuhai Humphrey, the driver of the vehicle that transported the officer.

Both individuals remain in police custody as investigations continue.


Next Steps

The officer’s body has been transferred to the City Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the precise cause of death.

The tragic incident has reignited discussions on the dangers of unsafe medical procedures and the need for stricter oversight of private health facilities.
