Kenya is once again mourning another painful case of femicide after 32-year-old Eunice Wanjiku, a mother of three, was brutally murdered by her husband on Thursday night.
According to human rights activist Njeri Wa Mwigi, Eunice had been trapped in an abusive marriage for years — a cycle of violence that tragically ended in her death.
Her untimely killing has left three innocent children without their mother and a devastated family struggling to come to terms with the loss.
In their grief, Eunice’s mother and sister reached out to Njeri, pleading for support as they cannot afford to give her a dignified burial. Their desperate appeal has drawn sympathy from the public and reignited calls for urgent action against gender-based violence.
This heartbreaking tragedy underscores the alarming rise of femicide cases in the country, where women continue to lose their lives at the hands of men who once vowed to protect them. Activists are now demanding stronger policies, harsher penalties for perpetrators, and greater protection for women in abusive relationships.
