The Homa Bay County Government has fulfilled a heartwarming promise to the late Albert Ojwang by completing a beautiful two-bedroom house for his parents, just a day before his final send-off.
In an emotional statement issued on Thursday, Governor Gladys Wanga said the new home, located in Kokwanyo village, Kabondo Kasipul Constituency, symbolizes the realization of Albert’s dream — to build his parents a decent house, even though he is no longer alive to witness it.

“Today, as we receive Albert’s body, his wish to give his parents a better home is fulfilled, though in his painful absence. May justice prevail for his untimely death,” said Governor Wanga.
A HOME BUILT WITH LOVE AND PURPOSE
The newly constructed house, standing beside the family’s previous semi-permanent structure, features a charming beige exterior complemented by white accents. A staircase leads to the main entrance, opening into a spacious, warmly lit living room, furnished with elegant couches and draped in bright, patterned curtains.
Inside, the home offers:
- One spacious sitting room
- Two bedrooms
- A modern kitchen with a rear exit
- A bathroom and toilet
- Fully furnished living space
Photos shared by Governor Wanga show a cozy, dignified space now occupied by Meshack Ojwang and his wife — a fitting tribute to their late son’s legacy.

FROM A PLEDGE TO A PROMISE KEPT
The rapid construction of the home follows a visit by Governor Wanga to the Ojwang family on June 16, where she pledged to build the house in memory of Albert. During that visit, she also delivered a Ksh2 million donation from President William Ruto to support the grieving family.
Wanga further committed to mobilize well-wishers to purchase a plot in Homa Bay for the construction of rental units — a sustainable income source for the family.
“This house may stand as a structure of stone and mortar, but its foundation is laid in compassion, dignity, and the pursuit of justice for Albert,” the governor added.
CALLS FOR JUSTICE
Albert Ojwang, a teacher, died under mysterious circumstances while in police custody after being arrested by DCI officers in early June. His death sparked public outrage and demands for accountability within the police force.
Governor Wanga, during the house handover, reiterated her commitment to ensure justice is served and that no family should ever have to suffer such a tragic loss in silence.

A SYMBOL OF HOPE
As the family prepares to bury Albert, the new home stands not just as a fulfillment of his dream, but as a symbol of hope — that community, leadership, and compassion can come together to honor a life cut short and support those left behind.
