Residents of Utawala Estate in Nairobi are living in fear after a daring thief, disguised in sharp attire, was captured on CCTV breaking into a home before escaping with valuables.
The shocking incident occurred at Awori Lane Courts, a residential complex in the area, where the burglar is seen walking confidently into an apartment block. The footage, which has since gone viral, shows the man dressed like a respectable tenant, giving no indication of his criminal intent. Once inside, he moved swiftly from room to room, rummaging through drawers and cabinets before carefully selecting what to take.
According to the recording, the thief made away with a flat-screen television, a laptop, several wristwatches, and an undisclosed amount of cash. His calm and calculated manner has raised concerns among locals, who now suspect that he may have surveyed the area beforehand or had insider knowledge.
This is not the first time such an incident has been reported in Utawala. Residents say they have been plagued by a wave of burglaries in recent months, with the latest case further amplifying their frustration. “We no longer feel safe even in our own homes,” lamented one resident, adding that the burglaries often happen in broad daylight when people are at work.
Community members are now calling on the police to step up patrols and intensify investigations to apprehend the suspect, who is believed to be behind multiple break-ins in the estate. Security experts have also urged residents to install CCTV cameras, strengthen door locks, and enhance neighborhood watch systems to curb the rising crime.
The boldness of the suspect, combined with his deceptive dressing, has left many shocked. For now, the residents of Utawala can only hope that law enforcement will act swiftly before the thief strikes again.
