Sunday, September 7, 2025 – A police officer has been arrested after a shocking road rage confrontation in Makongeni, Thika, that left two boda boda riders dead.
The incident unfolded on Sunday morning after the officer, who was driving an Audi, allegedly rear-ended a motorcycle carrying a passenger. While the passenger and rider escaped with only minor injuries, the situation quickly escalated.
According to eyewitnesses, the officer initially attempted to flee but was forced to stop due to traffic congestion. Other boda boda riders quickly caught up with him, demanding accountability for the accident.
The confrontation intensified as more riders gathered at the scene, demanding justice. Reports indicate that the officer then pulled out his firearm and opened fire, fatally shooting two riders who were not directly involved in the crash.
“The rider and passenger were not seriously hurt, but when others came to confront the driver, he pulled out his gun and shot two of them,” one witness recounted.
In retaliation, furious riders set the officer’s vehicle ablaze, reducing it to a shell. Photos and videos captured the burning car along Thika Road as crowds gathered to watch the dramatic scene unfold.
This marks the second violent incident involving boda boda operators torching a vehicle along Thika Road in recent days. Just last week, riders set a Super Metro PSV bus on fire after it knocked down and killed a fellow operator.
The officer is now in custody as investigations into the fatal shooting continue.
