Former Sofapaka FC goalkeeper Mathis Kigonya has joined Zambian side Trident Football Club after leaving his previous club more than six months ago.

The 27-year-old custodian left Sofapaka in January, terminating his contract with the 2009 Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions with his departure coming after just five months since rejoining the club following his stint with Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC.

In welcoming the keeper, Trident noted: “Trident Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Ugandan International goalkeeper, Mathias Kigonya, from Kenyan Premier League (FKFPL) outfit, Sofapaka FC.”

Kigonya previously featured for Kakamega Homeboyz and despite being linked with a match fixing scandal, has been one of the most experienced keepers in the region.

The move marks Kigonya’s second return to the Zambia Super League, having previously turned out for Forest Rangers.
