Confusion rocked Shabana on Monday after coach Sammy Okoth conducted training despite resigning on Sunday.
Players and members of the technical bench were shocked when Okoth turned up for training. “To be honest, we did not expect him at today’s training. He resigned on Sunday and it was all over in the media,” said a player who asked not to be named.
A member of the technical bench termed the situation comical. “This is funny. He resigned during his post-match interview. I don’t know what next but management should make a decision. This is a professional club.”
Earlier on Monday, club secretary general Elizaphan Kerama announced that assistant coach Oscar Kambona was to take charge of the team’s two games against Gor Mahia on Wednesday and Bandari on Sunday in Mombasa.
The Gor Mahia game will be played at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.
“Since Kambona was Okoth’s assistant, he will be in charge as we look for another coach,” said Kerama. He announced that more than 30 coaches have already applied for the post.
He however did not give any names but immediate former Kenya Police coach Francis Baraza is one of the leading candidates. He is a former Shabana defender and captain. Ends
