Nairobi City Stars goalkeeper Julius Ombacho is still training his sights on his Kenyan Premier League debut.

Ombacho, signed in the offseason from third-tier side Launda Villa, admits to there being challenges after switching levels but is keen on putting in the right shift to earn league games.

He helped Luanda Villa qualify to the National Super League where the club is so far unbeaten.

“I featured in Division One and now I am in City Stars. So far so good. Collectively, we are putting our best foot forward in the league. As for me, it has not been easy though. I came from the lower leagues and getting here means there is lots of competition,” he said in an interview.

He added: “On a personal level, I am putting in the effort for consideration, to earn that debut top-flight game, and feature in many more league games.”

Ombacho has made the Simba wa Nairobisquad once this season, where he was an unused substitute in a game six match against Kenya Police.

He faces stiff competition from Edwin Mukolwe and Elvis Ochoro. The two have so far conceded 21 goals the highest in the league.

This has partly been blamed on inconsistent defenders and coach Nicholas Muyoti faces a herculean task in reversing the trend.

City Stars will on Saturday host Kariobangi Sharks as the FKF Kenya Premier League resumes after a two week international break.

Simba wa Nairobi sits 13th on the log with 12 points from 11 games. Under pressure coach Muyoti says he is aiming to finish in the top 10 position.
