Naivas upset Mathare United 2-0 on Saturday to leapfrog them to the top of the second-tier National Super League (NSL).
Derrick Anami and Francis Nambute scored for Naivas in either half. Naivas now leads the log with 29 points, the same as Mathare United. Mathare has an inferior goal difference.
Despite a 5-2 drubbing against Kisumu All Stars at Awendo Green Stadium, Mara Sugar maintained the third position on the log.
Michael Karamor scored a double with Steve Brian, Arnold Akodhe, and Bruce Oduor added a goal each. The NSL top scorer Philemon Nyakwaka grabbed a double for the Cane Millers. Both teams are on 44 points.
Mara Sugar team manager Thomas Mboya said the club is currently working on getting a new coach.
At Ukunda showground, hosts SS Assad drubbed visiting Silibwet Leons 2-1. Abdalla Mdeka and Mathias Mwatabu scored for the hosts while Pablo Oduor scored Silibwet’s consolation.
At Mbaraki Sports ground in Mombasa, promotion-chasing Nairobi United narrowly beat Mombasa Stars 2-1 to maintain their fine form. Isaac Omweri and Rodgers Oporia were on target for Naibos while Abdulrahman Abdalla scored the hosts’ lone goal.
Vincent Nyaberi’s Mully Children’s Family (MCF) were held to a barren draw by visiting Rainbow FC at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. Speaking after the game: “I’m not happy with the result because this is a game we would have won. We took time to settle in the game. I now turn my focus to the next game against Silibwet Leons,” said Nyaberi.
Four games are scheduled for Sunday with Migori Youth hosting Dimba Patriots at Migori Stadium while Mulembe FC will entertain struggling Gusii FC at Mumias Sports Complex.
At Mbaraki Sports ground, Mombasa Elite welcomes bottom-of-the-log Vihiga Bullets as Kajiado FC collides with Kibera Black Stars.
