A mini purge is expected at struggling FKF Premier League side Shabana in the mid-season transfer window which opens in January.

A source at the club on Wednesday hinted that they will release 15 players among them veteran striker Enock Agwanda.

“There are players we have already informed that they are not part of our plans once we complete the first leg. We have told them to start looking for other clubs while others will be released once the transfer window is opened,” said the source.

The clear-out will be done after the last first-leg game against Muhoroni Youth at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on January 6.

“Expect major changes at Shabana as of January 6. We shall officially make the names public after all the formalities are done. We don’t want to destabilize the team now because we have a game on January 6,” said the club official.

Already, the club has released striker Johana Mwita and Ivorian forward Frank Ouya on disciplinary-related grounds.

The club has invited at least 20 players for trials. The team resumed training on Wednesday at Kisii School. About 10 trialists turned up on the first day of the training under interim coach Caleb Aringa.

According to club secretary general Elizaphan Kerama, the interim coach has been charged with the responsibility of rebuilding the team.

“We have given him a free hand to sign players who will help us maintain our Kenya Premier League status. We want to strengthen all departments from goalkeeping to striking,” added Kerama.

At the same time, Bandari will face a select team selected from the Rashid Abdalla Super Cup at Waa Primary School in a friendly match. The sponsor of the tournament, Citizen TV presenter Rashid Abdalla announced on Wednesday. Bandari will use the game to scout for players from the select team.
