Former Kenya Police head coach Francis Baraza and the current assistant coach Salim Babu have been shortlisted for the vacant post at FKF Premier League side Shabana.

Club Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama said: “From the list of more than 50 coaches who applied, we have shortlisted Baraza and Babu. They have credentials and outstanding CVs. We shall sit down with both of them in the coming week and settle on one.”

Kerama added: “We want to unveil the new coach before we play Posta Rangers next weekend.” Baraza, a former Shabana defender and captain, is the favourite to take over.

Babu already has a contract with Kenya Police and is currently the head coach of the national under 18 team – Rising Starlets – that will take part in the upcoming CECAFA U-18 tournament in Kisumu from November 25.

Kerama also added that they are looking for an assistant coach and a goalkeeper trainer. “We want to have a full technical bench before December,” added Kerama.

The club parted ways with coach Sammy Okoth and goalkeeper trainer Collins Oduor two weeks ago while Kevin Momanyi was demoted to Shaba’s youth team. Oscar Kambona has been handling the team in an interim capacity.

Additionally, he announced that the club plans to part ways with up to 10 players during the mid-season transfer window.

“We have a bloated squad of 31 players. In January, we want to drop up to 10 players and sign only five. We want to sign an experienced goalkeeper, a left back, a center back, a creative midfielder and a proven forward,” Kerama said On Sunday.
