National Super League (NSL) side Gusii FC has appealed for financial support after dishing out a walkover on Sunday.
The financially crippled side failed to travel to Nairobi for their encounter against Kibera Black Stars which was to be held at Vapor grounds.
In a statement posted on Social media the club said: “As you are all aware, we issued a walkover against Kibera Black Stars after having failed to make it to Nairobi due to tough financial times facing the club.”
“Earlier in the season we had prospective partners/sponsors who aided with travel logistics for our first three matches. Since then, the partners experienced some managerial changes and hence stopped the facilitation,” the club added.
The club had initially entered into a partnership with ChapaBet gaming firm but it appears the partnership collapsed.
“We therefore appeal to all fans and wellwishers to come to the aid of the team while we fight back to stability. Our dream of supporting local talent will never die and we promise to do all it takes to see the team rise again,” said the club.
The Kisii-based club sits bottom of the NSL log with a paltry six points from eight matches. The club might face further punishment from FKF for failing to honour the game.
Mathare United leads the log with 19 points followed in second place by Kisumu All Stars with 18 points while Mara Sugar and Naivas are third and fourth respectively with 17 points apiece.
After nine rounds, fifth-placed Luanda Villa and 7th placed Nairobi United are the only unbeaten teams in the league.
