Former Gor Mahia midfielder Raphael Asudi has passed on.
Asudi passed on Sunday August 13, 2023 afternoon while featuring in a Sunday League game between his Donholm Senior and Thika Vitambi at the Thika Stadium.
Asudi collapsed in the middle of the match, causing panic among teammates and opponents. Members of the technical bench and teammates attempted to administer first aid before he was rushed to the hospital.
The player was pronounced dead after two hours in the hospital with his side releasing a statement about the sad occurrence.
“With sorrow, we have to announce the death of Raphael Asudi a.k.a Rafoo. We are mourning the loss of our friend, small brother and team mate who made an impression on everyone he met. Rafoo collapsed today while doing what he loved doing and that was simply playing football.
“We were playing against Thika Vitambi at Thika municipal Stadium. Rafoo was rushed to Avenue Hospital under a critical condition and he was announced dead after.
“To the family of Raphael Asudi we are sending heartfelt condolences. Rafoo May you rest peacefully.
“Thank for being part of us Thank you for being you. Shine on your way our brother,” the statement noted.
Asudi’s death comes after previous deaths of Kenyan footballers, including Zablon Amanaka, Joe Kadenge, Kelvin Oliech and Wisdom Naya.
