Sports Kenya on Thursday handed Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia a KES2.2 million fine following the destruction of property at the Moi Kasarani Stadium on Saturday during the league match against Muranga Seal FC.
Sports Kenya Director General Pius Metto said club will only be allowed to host matches at Sports Kenya facilities once the money is paid.
Metto said during the game, violence erupted where Gor Mahia fans caused mayhem and damaged property. The game ended in a barren draw.
In the mayhem, 296 seats worth 1.7 million, 12 wooden panels people with disability worth KES240, 000 and four electrical panels worth KES490, 000 were damaged by rowdy Gor Mahia fans.
“Further, Gor Mahia is required to submit to Sports Kenya an elaborate plan of action on how the club will be able to contain such actions from their fans,” said Metto in his letter to Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier.
He added: “Failure to submit an action plan, Sports Kenya will have no option but to deny fans entry during any other matches involving your team.”
It’s unclear if the game’s friendly match with Tanzania’s Azam will go on at Kasarani.
The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee is yet to pronounce itself after Murang’a Seal and Shabana complained of hooliganism during their games.
