Gor Mahia opened a five-point lead at the top of the FKF Premier League after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bandari in a match that was played at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Friday.

Midfielder Austine Odhiambo scored the lone goal of the game in the 80th minute as the defending champions moved to 29 points on the log. Gor is followed closely by Posta Rangers with 27 same as third-placed KCB and fourth-placed Kakamega Homeboyz.

At Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, Nairobi City Stars continued with their fine run after upsetting hosts Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0.

Wycliffe Omondi scored the all-important goal for Simba wa Nairobi in the 60th minute. Omondi was named the man of the match after the solid performance.

Consequently, Nairobi City Stars moved to fifth on the log with 26 points. It was Nairobi City Stars’ fourth straight win. It was a second straight loss for Kakamega Homeboyz after succumbing to a 2-0 loss to AFC Leopards last weekend.

“It was a splendid performance from the boys. After a stuttering start, we decided to change our style of play because we were not playing to the strength of the players we had. This has helped us turn things around,” noted Nairobi City Stars chief executive officer Patrick Korir.

The league takes a festive season break and resumes on January 6. “We will pick up where we have left. I’m looking forward to our next match,” said Korir. He was unclear if they will make changes in the January transfer window which opens on January 8.
