FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia will appeal against sanctions imposed on the team by FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee over crowd related incidents in their game against Murang’a Seal.
A club official on Sunday said the club’s executive committee will meet to review the sanctions.
“The punishment is harsh. We are definitely going to appeal. We shall move to the Sports Disputes Tribunal and seek to have the sanctions set aside,” said a club official who asked not to be named because he is not the club’s spokesman.
“Gor Mahia have the right to appeal this ruling in accordance with the FKF Regulations. Should the club wish to exercise this right, they must submit a formal appeal to the FKF Appeals Committee alongside the required appeals fee. It is important to note that the filing of an appeal does not automatically suspend the implementation of this ruling,” said a statement from the Leagues and Competitions Committee.
The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee ruled that Gor Mahia will play five home matches behind closed doors. The club shall be responsible of the enforcement of this directive, the committee said.
Further, the club was fined Sh500, 000. Gor Mahia shall bear the costs of all the damages incurred by the stadium as shall be determined by Sports Kenya. Sports Kenya has already fined the club Sh2 million.
Four Gor Mahia players Ouma Rodgers, Onyango Rooney, Onyango Joshua and Ochieng Benson will face disciplinary action after being referred to the FKF Disciplinary Committee for their role in the skirmishes.
Additionally, Gor Mahia will cater or refund for incurred medical costs by match officials. Ends
