National Super League outfit Mara Sugar will on Friday unveil a new head coach.
Team manager Thomas Mboya on Thursday said they have completed interviews and will unveil the coach at their base in Enoosaen in Trans Mara, Narok County.
“We received several applications and after extensive interviews, we have settled on a new head coach,” said Mboya.
He did not reveal the name but immediate former Murang’a Seal coach Vincent Nyaberi and former AFC Leopards coach Tom Juma are favourites to land the job.
Other coaches who were interviewed for the job are former Darajani Gogo coach Caled Aringa and former defunct Mwatate FC coach Evans Mafuta.
Nyaberi guided Murang’a Seal to the Kenya Premier League for the first time but was sacked and replaced by Gabriel Njoroge Kingi. Juma left AFC Leopards earlier in the season after poor results.
The new coach will take over from Francis Xavier who resigned earlier in the season to join Sofapaka as an assistant coach. Since Xavier left, Mara Sugar has not won any game. In the last game, they twice came from behind to draw 2-2 against Dimba Patriots at Awendo Green Stadium in Migori last weekend.
On Saturday, the Cane Millers will travel to Mumias Sports Complex where they will face Mulembe United as they seek to bounce back to winning ways after going two games without a win.
The new coach is expected to be in charge of his first game on Saturday. Geoffrey Naibei, a long-serving assistant, has been in charge since Xavier left.
Mara Sugar leads the log with 14 points same as second-placed Kisumu All Stars but Mara Sugar has a better goal difference.
