Mathare United opened a five point lead at the top of the National Super League after a 2-0 win over Nairobi United on Wednesday.
Veteran forward Timothy Otieno and Meshack Ochieno scored for Mathare during the game that was played at Ruaraka Stadium.
Mathare leads the log with 22 points followed in second place by Kisumu All Stars with 18 while Mara Sugar and Naivas are on 17 points.
It was Nairobi United’s first loss of the season. On Sunday, Nairobi United will face the only unbeaten side in the league Luanda Villa at Mumboha Grounds in Luanda, Vihiga County.
“It was a bad day in the office but we hope to bounce back on Sunday. I’m aware Luanda Villa is a good but team but my boys are ready,” said Nairobi United chairman Samuel Born Maina.
Mathare United will face Kajiado United at Ildamat Stadium hoping to continue with their impressive run as they seek to return to the Kenya Premier League following their relegation last season.
Mathare under coach Leonard Odipi is hoping for a quick return to the top tier league.
On Saturday, Dimpa Patriots welcomes Rainbow at Wundanyi Stadium in Taita Taveta while Vihiga Bullets entertains struggling Kibera Black Stars at Mumias Sports Complex.
Mulembe United FC will clash with Mombasa Stars also at Mumias. At Mbaraki Sports Club, Mombasa Elite will host Migori Youth.
On Sunday, Mully Children’s Family hosts Mara Sugar at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. At Cardinal Otunga High School, Gusii FC will play Silibwet Leons.as SS Assad hosts on form Darajani Gogo.
Last weekend, Gusii FC dished a walkover after failing to travel to Nairobi for a game against Kibera Black Stars.
