National Super League side newcomers Nairobi United chairman Samuel Born Maina is confident the team will qualify for the Kenya Premier League next season.

“Our target is to play in the NSL for one season. Next season, we shall be in the KPL,” said a confident Maina.

Maina who spoke on the phone added: “We have played our away matches against Migori Youth, Luanda Villa, SS Assad Mombasa Elite, and this weekend, we shall complete our fixtures in Coast when we face Mombasa Stars.”

“Those are the most difficult away fixtures. Most of our second leg fixtures will be in Nairobi which is to our advantage. We want to utilize home-ground advantage as we seek our maiden KPL appearance,” added Maina.

Maina warned Kenya Premier League to keep off attacking midfielder Rodgers Oporia. “Oporia is not for sale at the moment. He is key in our campaign to qualify for the Kenya Premier League next season.”

We can only sell him abroad if we get a good offer. He said the team will again camp in Kisii for their mid-season preparations. “We had a good pre-season in Kisii and we are coming back in December and January. The players will go home for Christmas and report to work on December 26 for intense preparations,” noted Maina.

“During our mid-season break, we shall play a few friendly matches in Kisii and Nyamira Counties,” he added. The club sits 10th on the NSL log with 14 points from nine matches. They have three games at hand.
