Shabana Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama has assured the club’s fans that a new head coach will be unveiled before the league resumes from the festive season break.
“The fans should be patient. I want to assure them that we shall have a new head coach before the end of the year,” said Kerama.
The club had initially agreed terms with former Gor Mahia and Kenya Police coach Sammy Omollo but the coach declined the deal at the last minute.
The team’s other target Francis Baraza last week signed for NBC Tanzania Premier League side Dodoma Jiji.
Later the club engaged Kenya Police assistant coach Salim Babu who signed a pre-contract agreement with Shabana. He resigned from Kenya Police but his resignation was not accepted.
On Thursday, Babu held talks with Kenya Police leadership and was offered the head coach position to take over from Zdravko Logarusic who is on his way out of the club after a short stint. Logarusic clashed with the club’s management after he fell out with Babu and the team’s senior players.
Logarusic chased Babu from the team’s training ground after he returned from national duty with the national U18 team the Rising Stars.
“We are now back to the drawing board but there is no need to panic. Currently, Caleb Aringa is handling the team and he will be in charge of the team’s mid-season transfer window,” added the secretary general.
He also added that they have changed their recruitment policy.
“We have identified about 10 youthful players who will be assessed by the technical bench before we sign them. We will not go for big names in the mid-season transfer window. We made mistakes at the beginning of the season and we don’t want to repeat the same,” said Kerama.
At the same time, Murang’a Seal FC’s head coach, Gabriel ‘Kingi’ Njoroge, has left the club.
Njoroge was not in charge of the team’s 1-1 draw against AFC Leopards on Wednesday at St Sebastian Park. Dennis ‘Wise’ Okoth was in charge of the team and will be in charge until a new coach is appointed.
Njoroge, the ex-Mathare United FC manager, was in charge of 16 games, securing six wins, four draws, and five losses.
