FKF Division One Zone B side Soccer Assassins are the FKF Women’s Division One Playoffs champions following their 4-1 win over Kibera Soccer Ladies at the RVIST Grounds, Nakuru on Sunday.
Queens were the first to open the scoring proceedings in the 18th minute through Maximila Robi but Assassins ought to have restored parity when they were awarded a penalty but Charity Midema’s effort was saved by keeper Kaguta Esnas.
Midema however made up for her miss by restoring matters in the 24th minute with Valerie Nekesa’s scoring a brace to ensure that to extend her side’s lead before another goal from Faith Atieno wrapped the scoring proceedings.
With the promotion to Kenya’s top tier the FKF Women’s Premier League, Soccer Assassins made history as the first school team to feature in the tier as they are predominantly players from Madira Girls School team.
Kibera Soccer Ladies return to the top flight after a season in the lower tier and arrives with a wealth of experience having come third in the FKF Women’s Cup 2023. Both teams got a prize money of 500,000 shillings.
In the other playoff that would find a team to join Kibera and Assassins in the top flight, Bungoma Queens secured victory over Uweza Women with a 6-5 aggregate on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time.
Both teams had finished second in their various zones and Uweza had the upper hand in the tie when they took the lead through Esther Ngungi but Caroline Khaemba ensured parity was restored ten minutes after the half-time break.
