Kenya’s 15’s rugby captain George Nyambua, has attributed a strategic shift as the crucial factor in retaining the Elgon Cup.
Expressing his joy after the hard-fought 20-13 victory against neighbours and eternal rivals Uganda at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu, Nyambua highlighted the team’s altered approach that secured the 40-34 aggregate win.
Reflecting on the pain of losing the Victoria Cup, Nyambua mentioned that it served as motivation for their triumphant performance.
“The loss in the Victoria Cup by a point was challenging for the team. We were determined to win the Elgon Cup at home to give our fans something to smile about,” he said.
Looking forward, Simbas’ head coach, Jerome Paarwater, acknowledged the need for improvement ahead of next year’s Currie Cup and the international test season in June.
“With brief training periods and the inclusion of several new players, we recognize the necessity for extended training sessions to enhance our fundamental skills for the upcoming year,” Paarwater added. Ends
