Tanzania are the 2023 CECAFA U18 Championship after accumulating 12 points in the entire tournament.
While the host scooped the overall price, Ethiopia’s Emush Daniel Dandamo won the top scorers gong after bagging five goals in the entire tournament which was played in a group format after a chunk of teams failed to participate in the event.
Tanzania’s Aisha Juma was the second-best scorer with three goals with a chunk of girls having scored two goals in the tournament. The two-goal battalion had five Ugandan players including Kamiyat Naigara, Shamsha Najjuma, Allen Nassazi, Phiona Nabulime and Agnes Nabukenya. Others on two goals were Mehelet Bekele (Ethiopia), Adolphine Salumu (Burundi), and Winifrida Gerald (Tanzania).
Gerald was voted as the most valuable player in the tournament following her starring role for her host nation as they finished the tournament with 12 points. Husna Mtunda of Tanzania walked home with the best goalkeepers award with her coach Bakari Shime handed the tournament’s hoorary award
The tournament had been scheduled to take place in Kenya earlier but a change arrived late with Tanzania handed the hosting rights after Football Kenya Federation withdrew their team stating that the Kenyan girls had school games and exams to attend.
