National Super League side Mara Sugar’s head coach Francis Xavier has resigned.
Xavier will join Kenya Premier League outfit Sofapaka as an assistant coach. He will deputize Ezekiel Akwana.
Mara Sugar assistant Godfrey Naibei will take over from Xavier in an acting capacity until a new head coach is named, said team manager Thomas Mboya.
Mboya said they have already started the process of recruiting another coach.
“We have started receiving CVs. We shall sit down with our technical director Boniface Ambani and settle on the right man for the job,” said Mboya.
He added: “We are looking for someone with at least CAF C qualification. He must be disciplined and experienced. Someone who will portray our club’s good image out there.”
In Xavier’s last match, Mara Sugar lost their unbeaten run when they went down 2-0 against Mathare United in Nairobi on Saturday.
On Xavier’s departure, Ambani said: “He got an offer from Sofapaka and he saw it’s better for him to move. When a man makes a decision, you don’t hold. All you do is wish him all the best. It opens a door for somebody else. So don’t speculate. He was doing relatively well, but we had to allow him to go.”
At the same time, Moses Onyango has been appointed as the new Kibera Black Stars head coach. He will be assisted by former left-back Noah Abich while Phillip Odhiambo is the goalkeeper coach.
The club last week parted ways with the entire technical bench led by Samuel Njuguna. The club also sacked assistant coach Said Mohammed and goalkeeper trainer Charles Abwodha.
“The three come with vast experience in their respective areas and we expect them instill the same which align with strategic ambitions of the team. We welcome them to Kibera Black Stars family as they assist us in realizing our goals,” the club said in a statement.
