The eargerly anticipated 93rd edition of Kenya’s biggest match, Mashemeji derby has been postponed to a later date due to the unavailability of the match venue- Nyayo Stadium.

The facility is undergoing renovations stadium in preparation for the upcoming CHAN 2025 Competition which will be hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Dennis Muchiri from the FKF Leagues & Competitions Department announced the postponement on Thursday in a letter to the clubs.

“We are writing about the FKF PL Match No. 79, AFC Leopards SC vs Gor Mahia FC earlier scheduled to be played on Sunday, 24th November 2024, 1600Hrs at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi. Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that the match has been postponed to a later date due to the unavailability of the match venue. This is due to ongoing renovations at the stadium in preparation for the upcoming CHAN 2025 Competition,” said Muchiri.

He added: “Additionally, as the match is considered high risk, the home team has been unable to secure an appropriate alternative venue for the match.We shall communicate the rescheduled dates in due course.”

“Thank you for taking note and apologies for the inconvenience caused,” concluded Muchiri.

AFC Leopards will now shift their focus on their next fixture against Shabana FC on Wednesday 27th November 2024 that will be played at Gusii Stadium, Kisii County.
