Kenya Parliamentarians men’s volleyball team, has expressed optimism for a podium finish in the ongoing EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games despite losing 3-0 to Rwanda this evening.
In a match witnessed by the National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, at the Aga Khan Academy, the legislators put up a spirited fight to stop Rwanda from runaway victory.
Their efforts however, turned futile as Rwanda proved to be well coordinated in the very competitive game, winning all the three sets.
Speaking after the match, Brighton Yegon (Konoin) a key player for team Kenya, stated that with one more game at hand they are still hopeful of a podium finish.
“This has been a very tough game our rivals were very prepared and really cordinated well. We tried our best and we will keep practicing for the next match which we will be playing next week on Monday,” he said.
At the same time, Yegon highlighted the need for more Members to join the volleyball team.
According to the lawmaker they did not have much option during the match against Rwanda as they had no reserve players on the bench. He further noted that a majority of players in the team also play in other disciplines, resulting to divided attention.
“We need more Members joining the team. Today we didn’t have any substitute on the bench and despite a player being tired he had to play through the game which our opponents capitalized on,” Hon. Yegon said.
Team Kenya is scheduled to play their final match on Monday 16th December, 2024 against South Sudan at Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa County.
