Kenya’s Nelly Chepchirchir is looking forward to an exciting 1500 semi-final race at 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Thursday night.
Chepchirchir produced an excellent performance clocking 4:02.67 to win her heat on her Olympic debut on Tuesday to sail into the highly anticipated semis at Stade de France tomorrow.
Her compatriots, two-time Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon and Susan Ejore also booked their spots in the semis that will also feature Ethiopia’s Tsegay Gudaf.
Though she looked a bit nervous before stepping on the track on Tuesday, Chepchirchir is eager leave a mark in the race.
“It’s my first appearance at the Olympics and I’m happy I made it to the semi-finals,” said Chepchirchir.
“The experience has been amazing so far. I was in the call room and I heard some noise before my heat, I think Faith (Kipyegon) and group was racing that made me to get some tension,” she said.
She says they have all set their sights on reaching the final, nothing else.
“We thank God all Kenyans have qualified for the semis, that was our initial target and I’m glad we achieved it. We will now see how the semis will be, but our main objective here is for all of us to reach the final,” said Chepchirchir.
